Dutch TV host Carlo Boszhard and his fiancée Herald Adolfs have shared heartbreaking news on Instagram: they said goodbye to their beloved cat Lotje. The couple revealed that Lotje passed away after an eight-week palliative care journey, following a diagnosis of an incurable illness.
In an emotional post accompanied by a series of photos, Boszhard and Adolfs wrote: “Dear Lotje from the Lottery! Eight weeks ago we drove you to the university in Utrecht to get you examined, and then it turned out you were terminally ill. You were given 4-6 weeks, but it could likewise be just two, as the vet said. Our unlimited palliative care started and lasted until yesterday evening at 10:30 PM – a full eight weeks. Eight weeks full of love, cuddles, baths, and a utility room stocked with liquid food…”
The message continued: “Heartbroken given that our loving cat family has been halved and it’s already far too quiet in our home, we are still incredibly grateful to have had such a Lotje from the Lottery. Love is also letting go. Goodbye, dear Lot.”
This loss comes just one month after the couple said farewell to another cherished pet, their red cat Tommie, who had been part of their lives for 14 years. In a previous Instagram tribute, they recalled: “After fourteen years of cuddling, head butts, ruling the house as the catboss, purring at our feet – or even better, between us for hours, lounging in Wil’s garden, chewing on my charger when you wanted breakfast in the morning, talking to us in cat language… we had to say goodbye to you yesterday with tears streaming down our faces on your red fur.”
The couple’s openness about their grief has resonated with fans, highlighting the deep emotional bonds many share with their pets. Their tributes to both Tommie and Lotje reflect a growing trend among public figures to speak candidly about pet loss, underscoring the significant role animals play in personal lives and mental well-being.
