Jeff Monroe Announces Candidacy for South Dakota State Treasurer

Pierre, S.D. – Former South Dakota state legislator Jeff Monroe announced today his candidacy for State Treasurer in the 2026 election.

Monroe, a longtime advocate for conservative principles, stated his intention to maintain the financial stability and transparency currently demonstrated by the Treasurer’s office. He emphasized a commitment to responsible fiscal management and accountability to taxpayers. “As a legislator, I always tried to make decisions that respected taxpayers and kept government accountable,” Monroe said. “The Treasurer’s office has done great work under Secretary Haeder, especially with unclaimed property, and I want to keep that progress moving in the right direction.”

Throughout his service in both the South Dakota House and Senate, Monroe built a reputation for diligent work and adherence to his principles. His campaign will focus on protecting taxpayer dollars and ensuring responsible handling of state funds. This race is significant as the State Treasurer oversees the state’s financial operations, including investment of public funds and management of unclaimed assets.

“I believe in honesty, good stewardship, and doing what’s right,” Monroe added. “That’s what South Dakotans expect from their leaders, and that’s what I’ll bring to the job every day.” Further details about Monroe’s platform and campaign events can be found on the State of South Dakota’s official website.

Monroe intends to continue a dialogue with voters across the state in the coming months to outline his vision for the Treasurer’s office.
