Jitske Van de Veire Opens New Salon Following Difficult Weeks: “No One Speaks to Me About My Dad Anymore”
Influencer and entrepreneur Jitske Van de Veire has launched a new hair salon after a period of personal upheaval and is ready to move forward. The 32-year-traditional is hoping the new venture will allow her to focus on her function and put recent family matters behind her.
“No one speaks to me about my dad anymore,” Van de Veire stated, referencing her father, Radio2 presenter Peter Van de Veire. The comment comes after a challenging period for the family, including a public discussion about the impact of her parents’ divorce.
In a recent appearance on her father’s podcast, ‘Peter Van de Veire & De Zandloper,’ Jitske Van de Veire opened up about the pain she experienced when her parents decided to separate. “That one moment is a breaking point for me that still hurts and brings tears to my eyes,” she shared. She recalled the moment her father told her he was leaving home, coinciding with her announcement of receiving her first ever detention at school.
“I was proud that I had detention for the first time and said, ‘Dad, I have something to notify you.’ And then you said, ‘I also have something to tell you.’ And then I knew it was over,” Van de Veire explained on the podcast.
Despite the lingering pain, Van de Veire acknowledges that people grow apart. “People divorce, that’s logical. If parents are no longer happy together, you can’t do anything about it. But that one moment when everything changes is crazy to experience,” she said. She also reflected on the difficulty of understanding why people choose to have children if they are not able to maintain a relationship.
Van de Veire is now married and is a stepmother to a daughter. Her openness about her experiences resonates with many, as evidenced by her 62,000 followers on Instagram. The VRT podcast ‘Snapt ge mij nu?’ also explored the lasting effects of parental separation on children, featuring singer-songwriter Emma Bale among others.
