Short films will be taking center stage from March 25th to 31st as the annual Fête du court-métrage (Short Film Festival) returns with a variety of screenings and events. Organizers are introducing several new initiatives to broaden the festival’s appeal.
“This year, we’ve been thinking about our teens, who often arrive to the library after school,” says Christine Mégia, the library director. “We’ve scheduled two sessions for 13- to 17-year-olds on Thursday, March 26th and Tuesday, March 31st at 4 p.m.”
Senior citizens will also have a dedicated viewing experience. “At the Stern nursing home, we plan to present a selection of films on the theme of laughter from the 1960s,” explains Cyril Martin, director of the Maison des mille marches.
Lorraine Region in the Spotlight
“And then we’re organizing an ‘off’ day to really showcase the Lorraine region!” adds the director. In addition to the films in the association’s official program, four short films made by students from the Lorraine region will be screened at the Espace Saint-Pierremont in Mancieulles, starting at 8:45 p.m. On Tuesday, March 24th. A “drawn concert” is also scheduled for Wednesday evening, March 25th.
With the goal of popularizing the art of short filmmaking, organizers hope that both film buffs and newcomers will find something to enjoy in the festival’s lineup. The festival’s focus on accessibility and diverse programming reflects a growing trend in the film industry to champion shorter-form content.
