Former Major League Pitcher John Morris Dies at 84

John Morris, a pitcher who played for the Philadelphia Phillies, Baltimore Orioles, Milwaukee Brewers, and San Francisco Giants, has died at the age of 84.

Morris, a Lewes, Delaware native, was initially drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in 1960 and made his major league debut with the team in 1966. He went on to pitch in 132 games over eight seasons, finishing his career with a 3.92 ERA. His most notable performances came during his time with the Milwaukee Brewers in 1970, where he threw back-to-back complete games, including a victory over future Hall of Famer Catfish Hunter and the Oakland A’s on May 19th.

Throughout his career, Morris also played for the Seattle Pilots – a short-lived franchise that transitioned into the Milwaukee Brewers – and the San Francisco Giants organization. While his time in the majors wasn’t extensive, it represented a fulfilled dream for Morris, who dedicated over a decade to professional baseball after being drafted as a teenager. The passing of veteran players like Morris marks a loss for baseball history and the stories that connect generations of fans to the game. Morris passed away in Scottsdale, Arizona, and is survived by his wife, three children, and four grandchildren. Details regarding memorial services have not yet been released, but his contributions to the game will be remembered by those who followed his career.
