Actor Julián Gil has publicly criticized a campaign spearheaded by the television program “Despierta América” to arrange a meeting between his son, Matías, and soccer superstar Lionel Messi.

Gil voiced his strong disapproval during an appearance on the same show, calling the initiative “a mockery” and “a lack of respect.” He argued that it’s far more important for his young son to build a relationship with his father.

“Let him call me,” Gil said, “although I think it’s much more important that he gets to know his dad. If she wants to launch a campaign, I challenge her, I challenge ‘Despierta América,’ anyone producing the show, to launch a campaign for Matías to get to know his dad, his brothers, his nephews.”

The actor clarified that if a meeting with Messi were truly a priority, he has the connections to make it happen, suggesting the campaign is more about publicity than a genuine desire to fulfill his son’s wishes. This latest dispute underscores the ongoing tensions between Gil and his ex-partner, Marjorie de Sousa.

The conflict between Gil and De Sousa dates back to their separation in April 2017. Since then, Gil has publicly discussed his efforts to maintain a close bond with Matías and exercise his rights as a father. Celebrity custody battles often play out in the public eye, and this case is no exception.
