Juozas Olekas, a member of the Social Democratic Party, was hospitalized from Friday, October 10, through Tuesday, October 14. While the initial reason for his treatment wasn’t disclosed, a spokesperson for the Speaker of the Parliament told local media the illness was related to an infection.
Olekas recently offered more details about his health scare during an interview.
“The health concerns were related to my leg. It was a certain infection that needed to be addressed,” Olekas said.
He then playfully described the ailment, suggesting it was a fortunate sign.
“I said it was a good sign from God that, as a social democrat, I was sent a rose,” the politician joked.
Olekas also confirmed that the illness did not prevent him from celebrating his 70th birthday on October 30.
