Two-time Oscar winner Kevin Spacey‘s career has faced notable disruption as 2017, following allegations of sexual misconduct. Now, the actor reveals a dramatic shift in his personal life, telling The Telegraph he currently lives a transient existence, staying in hotels and Airbnbs and no longer maintaining a permanent residence. This comes as Spacey, who has consistently denied the accusations against him, reflects on his diminished income and the financial realities impacting his lifestyle.

Los Angeles

Kevin Spacey, the two-time Oscar winner, has revealed a significant shift in his living situation: he currently resides in hotels and Airbnbs, admitting he “doesn’t really have a home” anymore.

The actor shared this information during a recent interview with The Telegraph, as reported by Independent. “I’m staying in hotels, in Airbnbs. I mean, I don’t have a home,” he stated.

Spacey’s career stalled in 2017 following multiple allegations of sexual misconduct, accusations he has consistently denied. The fallout effectively sidelined him from mainstream Hollywood projects. The revelations sparked a broader conversation about power dynamics and accountability within the entertainment industry.

Since then, Spacey has taken on smaller roles, including performing with a band in a cabaret-style show at a resort.

The actor acknowledged his financial situation is precarious. He explained that he’s been unable to maintain the costs associated with owning a home for the past seven years.

“I have very little income and everything goes out,” he said.

Spacey previously owned a luxurious home in Baltimore, Maryland, boasting stunning waterfront views.

The 9,000-square-foot property, approximately 836 square meters, featured a private cinema, sauna, terrace, multiple bedrooms and bathrooms, and two garages.

According to Robb Report, the home was sold at auction in 2023 for $3.2 million (approximately Rp 53.4 billion). It was subsequently resold by the new owner in February 2025 for just under $6 million.

Living in Hotels

Spacey’s choice to live a nomadic lifestyle, moving from hotel to hotel, is unusual for many. However, a growing number of people are opting for extended hotel stays even when they have other housing options.

One family of eight reportedly lived in a hotel room for over 229 days and planned to continue doing so, citing cost savings as the primary reason.

“We feel very comfortable living here, so we plan to stay in the hotel for the rest of our lives,” said Mu Xue, a member of the family, as quoted by Oddity Central.

The family, who wished to remain anonymous, explained that hotel living is more economical than maintaining a private residence, as expenses like electricity, parking, heating, and water are all included in their daily rate of 1,000 yuan (approximately Rp 2.3 million).

They booked a luxury suite with two bedrooms and a large living room, comfortably accommodating the entire family. The hotel is located in Nanyang, Henan Province, China.

Young adults in China are also increasingly choosing hotels over renting or buying homes, again citing financial benefits.

“For someone with social issues like me, dealing with landlords or homeowners is the worst part. It’s a nightmare,” Hu Weiwei, a 24-year-old professional gamer, told Sixth Tone, as reported by Oddity Central.

“Cost-wise, staying in a hotel is more efficient. There’s no deposit, no agency fees, and no utilities. I don’t have to clean the room, the AC can be on 24 hours, and it’s close to shops, restaurants, and train stations,” she added.

Compared to paying 1,000 yuan (around Rp 2.3 million) per month for an apartment with a roommate, or 2,000 to 3,000 yuan for a solo apartment, Hu finds that a hotel stay at 2,500 yuan offers significant advantages.
