Kochi, India – Kochi Metro services were temporarily disrupted Wednesday morning after a train experienced a technical malfunction near MG Road station, officials said. Full service resumed around 10:10 a.m. Local time after a delay of approximately one and a half hours, impacting commuters during peak travel times.
The issue occurred around 8:00 a.m. As a train traveling from Tripunithura to Aluva experienced an unexpected brake application just before reaching the MG Road station. Passengers were safely evacuated from the train at the station, according to reports from Manorama Online.
Metro authorities quickly initiated procedures to remove the disabled train from the tracks. The train was towed to the Muttom yard, allowing services to return to normal. Malayalam TV9 reported that all trains were operating at a reduced speed of 10 kilometers per hour following the incident.
The disruption affected students and workers traveling to their destinations, causing significant inconvenience. Metro Vaartha confirmed that the stalled train was removed and normal operations were restored.
The incident highlights the challenges of maintaining reliable public transportation infrastructure in a rapidly growing urban area.
