Bernie Kosar Hospitalized, Liver Transplant Delayed
Former Cleveland Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar is currently hospitalized after undergoing two procedures to address internal bleeding as he awaits a delayed liver transplant.
Kosar revealed in a video posted today that his scheduled liver transplant, planned for this past weekend, was postponed due to an infection in the donor organ. He subsequently underwent two medical interventions to stop internal bleeding and was preparing for a third. “I could really use your love, support and actual prayers today,” Kosar said from his hospital bed.
The 61-year-old Kosar publicly disclosed his diagnoses of cirrhosis of the liver and Parkinson’s disease in July 2024. He has been on the transplant list, and doctors noted some improvement in his condition earlier this year, according to reports. Kosar played for the Browns from 1985 to 1993, leading the team to three AFC Championship Game appearances, and remains a beloved figure in Cleveland. Kosar ranks third in Browns franchise history with 21,904 passing yards.
