Surveillance footage circulating on social media showed the metal pole toppling onto the sidewalk, sending debris scattering across the pavement. No injuries were immediately reported, though city officials warned of potential hazards as cleanup efforts began.
Witnesses at the scene told local media the pole appeared to have been weakened by rust over time. “It was completely rotten at the base,” one bystander said. “You could see the metal was just crumbling.” Another described hearing a loud crack moments before the structure gave way, adding, “It’s a miracle no one was standing underneath it.”
The collapse has raised concerns about the condition of aging infrastructure in Košice, Slovakia’s second-largest city.
