Jakarta – A member of the Indonesian prosecutor’s office allegedly struck a Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) officer with a vehicle while attempting to evade arrest during a sting operation over the weekend. The incident,involving a prosecutor from the hulu Sungai Utara district,highlights ongoing challenges to Indonesia’s anti-corruption efforts and raises questions about potential obstruction of justice within the legal system. KPK officials report the impacted officer is in stable condition while authorities continue to pursue the fleeing suspect.

KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo told reporters Sunday, December 21, 2025, that the officers involved in the incident are in stable condition. “Thank God, they are in good condition, safe, and unharmed,” Prasetyo said.
Prasetyo did not confirm whether Taruna Fariadi, the prosecutor, has been added to the wanted persons list, but stated that authorities are still actively pursuing him.

“If there is any new information, we will update you,” he added.
According to officials, Fariadi attempted to flee as KPK officers moved to arrest him. He allegedly resisted arrest and, in the process, struck an officer with his vehicle.
“It is true (he hit an officer). According to reports from our officers carrying out the arrest of the suspect, he resisted and attempted to flee,” said Asep Guntur Rahayu, Acting Deputy for Enforcement and Execution at the KPK, during a press conference Saturday, December 20, in Jakarta.
Rahayu stated that a warrant for Fariadi’s arrest will be issued if he is not apprehended. He also confirmed that authorities are coordinating with the suspect’s family and the prosecutor’s office to locate him.
“We urge the individual to immediately surrender or come forward to cooperate with the legal process,” Rahayu said.
“We are coordinating with his family regarding this matter. Typically, when someone flees, they turn to acquaintances and family for help,” he concluded.
The following individuals have been identified as suspects:
1. Albertinus P Napitupulu (APN), Head of the Hulu Sungai Utara (HSU) District Attorney’s Office
2. Asis Budianto (ASB), Head of the Intelligence Section of the HSU District Attorney’s Office
3. Taruna Fariadi (TAR), Head of the Civil and State Administration Section of the HSU District Attorney’s Office
