EastEnders to Highlight Scam Risks in Upcoming Storyline

EastEnders will air a storyline later this month focusing on the emotional manipulation used by scammers, coinciding with the BBC’s Scam Safe week.

The plot centers around character Lauren Branning, played by Jacqueline Jossa, who believes she has found a treatment plan for her son Jimmy’s recently diagnosed optic nerve and chorioretinal coloboma, a condition causing severely impaired eyesight. However, she will ultimately be defrauded out of money when the treatment is revealed as a scam. The storyline will begin airing the week of November 24th.

BBC Chief Content Officer Kate Phillips stated, “Our 2025 Scam Safe week will equip people with the knowledge and confidence they need to protect themselves – and drive a vital national conversation.” This storyline aims to raise awareness about the increasing prevalence of fraud and its devastating impact on families. Viewers seeking help with fraud can find resources at Action Fraud.

Other storylines unfolding this week include developments with characters Anthony, Zoe, Ian, Elaine, and Anna Knight. Fans can catch up on previous episodes and learn more about the characters on the EastEnders website.

Officials say the week-long initiative, involving shows like Hope Street and The One Show, is intended to empower the public to recognize and avoid fraudulent schemes.
