Cofruid’Oc, a French fruit growers’ cooperative, has appointed a new leader in a move signaling continuity in its management approach.
The cooperative announced that Jean-Luc Moreau will assume the role of president, succeeding outgoing leader Marie Dubois, who stepped down after serving two terms. Moreau, who previously served as vice president, has been involved with the cooperative for over 15 years and played a key role in expanding its export markets to Germany and Spain.
The leadership transition comes as Cofruid’Oc continues to navigate fluctuating demand in European fresh produce markets, particularly for stone fruits and citrus varieties grown in the Occitanie region. The cooperative, which represents more than 300 growers across southern France, reported a 4% increase in annual turnover last year, driven by stronger sales of organic peaches and nectarines.
Moreau emphasized that his priorities will include sustaining the cooperative’s investment in sustainable farming practices and maintaining stable prices for member producers. He also noted ongoing efforts to strengthen logistics infrastructure to reduce post-harvest losses, a challenge that has affected yields during recent heatwaves.
The change in leadership was approved during the cooperative’s annual general meeting held on June 12, 2024, in Perpignan. Members voted unanimously in favor of the appointment, reflecting broad confidence in Moreau’s leadership within the organization.
Cofruid’Oc remains one of the largest fruit cooperatives in France by volume, supplying major retail chains and food processors across the European Union. Its focus on regional varietals and traceability has positioned it as a key supplier in the growing market for locally sourced, environmentally certified produce.
