The University Hospital of Liège (CHU de Liège) will inaugurate a newly renovated Center for Reference on AIDS (CRS) on Monday, bolstering specialized HIV care in the region. After six months of construction, the updated facility aims to improve the patient experience and streamline access to critical services, including preventative treatments like PrEP. For thirty years, the CRS has served as a leading hub for HIV care, currently supporting approximately 1,400 patients with a multidisciplinary team of 19 professionals.

The University Hospital of Liège (CHU de Liège) will inaugurate its newly renovated Center for Reference on AIDS (CRS) on Monday at 4 p.m. local time, marking a significant step forward in providing comprehensive care for individuals affected by HIV.

The renovations, completed after six months of work, are designed to create a more welcoming and patient-centered environment, fostering trust between patients and healthcare providers. Access to specialized HIV care and preventative services remains a critical public health priority.

For two decades, the CRS has been located on the Brull site and currently serves approximately 1,400 active patients. Over the past thirty years, it has established itself as a regional leader in the fight against HIV, offering both therapeutic care and preventative education.

A key improvement in the renovation is the consolidation of the entire CRS team and the infectious diseases service into a single location, streamlining patient care pathways. The center now comprises 19 professionals with complementary expertise, including internists, a pediatrician, nurses, social workers, a psychologist, a sexologist, a dietitian, and administrative staff.

The center provides complete care for people living with HIV, as well as access to PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis), a highly effective preventative treatment to avoid HIV infection. It also actively participates in HIV testing, promotion of testing services, and training for professionals in the medical and social sectors.

“This inauguration marks an important step for the reception, support, and care of people living with HIV or requiring preventive follow-up,” the hospital stated.
