Los Realejos Kicks Off January with Tenerife’s Biggest Cultural Program
Music, theater, puppetry, and comedy at the Teatro Cine Realejos complement ongoing exhibitions and a diverse range of artistic events.
Los Realejos Mayor Adolfo González and Culture Councilor Alba Hernández recently unveiled the municipality’s artistic lineup for 2026, positioning the area as “the epicenter of cultural programming in Northern Tenerife,” according to González.
Hernández explained that, “in addition to the programming that fills the renovated Teatro Cine Realejos every weekend with music, theater, puppetry, and comedy, among other artistic expressions, there are complementary activities taking place at the Casa Municipal de la Cultura and the cultural spaces La Parra and La Ferretería. These venues host a wide catalog of exhibitions throughout the year, as well as other events like theatrical performances, musical concerts, and conferences.”
“Furthermore,” Hernández added, “the revitalization project at the Viera y Clavijo Municipal Library continues, serving as a hub for various workshops related to literature, storytelling sessions for families, and book presentations. Neighborhood centers and other public spaces in the town also contribute to the cultural programming.”
González noted that “the Culture team is working diligently to finalize this calendar with artists, collectives, and production companies. The full schedule is available on the realejoscultural.com website, where tickets can be purchased or reserved for events with limited capacity.”
The Mayor emphasized that “this website and the ‘Realejos Cultural’ social media channels are a reliable source of information for all this programming in the region, which has been definitively relaunched with the reopening of the Teatro Cine Realejos, while continuing to decentralize activities throughout the neighborhoods.”
The municipality also hosts a robust cultural calendar during the Fiestas de Mayo and Fiestas del Carmen in July, with additional exhibitions, conferences, and festivals. Similar, smaller-scale events are also planned around Carnavales, Semana Santa, and Christmas.
“Another key focus of the Culture Department is supporting local artists – both individual and groups – by providing spaces to showcase their work and offering direct financial assistance through grants,” González stated. “These artists are truly ambassadors for our municipality.”
Hernández highlighted the “6 de 12” international open-air mural museum, featuring large-scale artworks by various artists. Launched in 2019, the project has already produced 42 murals, alongside other urban art initiatives.
Artistic Education
González stated that “the Culture Department’s commitment to cultural and artistic promotion extends to its established artistic schools and the School of Music and Dance. Subsidized initiatives, such as support for the municipality’s music bands, are also significant, attracting participants from across Northern Tenerife. This demonstrates our dedication to cultural matters.”
