Washington Nationals ace left-hander MacKenzie Gore is widely expected to be traded in the coming days, according to multiple reports. Several teams are already preparing offers for the young pitcher.
The 26-year-old Gore, once a highly touted prospect with the San Diego Padres, arrived in Washington as part of the trade that sent Juan Soto to San Diego in 2022. This season, Gore earned his first All-Star selection, posting a 4.17 ERA with 185 strikeouts over 159.2 innings in 30 starts. His impressive strikeout rate of 10.4 K/9 and a FIP of 3.74 further highlight his potential.
More than half of the teams in Major League Baseball have reportedly expressed interest in acquiring Gore, according to reports from The Athletic. Jeff Passan and Kiley McDaniel of ESPN added that the Nationals are open to listening to offers, but are also seeking a significant return for their valuable asset.
Paul Toboni, the Nationals’ newly appointed President of Baseball Operations, recently acknowledged the interest in Gore during a radio appearance. “I told him, before we get into specifics, you need to know one thing: teams are calling because you’re really good,” Toboni said. “Our job is to maintain a high standard, but we’ll also listen, because that’s part of our job.”
