The body of Maddy Giansili, an 18-year-old woman from Frontignan, France, was discovered Tuesday morning, February 10, 2026, bringing a week-long search to a tragic end. The discovery comes after Giansili was reported missing on February 3rd, prompting a widespread investigation.
The grim discovery was made in the Salins area of Frontignan, a remote and marshy region bordering a lagoon. Maddy Giansili’s body was found Tuesday, February 10, 2026, in the morning, according to authorities. The case highlights the vulnerabilities faced by young people and the anxieties surrounding unexplained disappearances.
“The body of the young woman reported missing was discovered today by a witness who immediately informed the police services,” Montpellier Public Prosecutor Thierry Lescouarc’h confirmed Tuesday evening.
An Autopsy to Determine Cause of Death
The investigation, initially focused on locating the missing woman, has now shifted to determining the cause of her death. Police from Sète are investigating to “exclude the involvement of a third party in the circumstances of this death, particularly through upcoming forensic findings,” authorities stated. Investigators are working to understand how Giansili ended up in the Salins area and whether foul play was involved.
Police Issued Appeals for Witnesses
Maddy Giansili, 18, was last seen on February 3rd after leaving her home to buy bread. According to her parents, she left without her phone, identification, or bank card, carrying only a small amount of change given to her by her mother.
Family members launched an immediate appeal for information, and a missing person investigation was opened by the Sète-Frontignan police department. A review of city surveillance cameras showed Giansili speaking with a young woman on Rue Saint-Paul in Frontignan for approximately 20 minutes between 5:30 PM and 6:00 PM on the day she disappeared.
