Just three months after its launch, Mafia: The Old Country is receiving a substantial content update. Dubbed Free Ride, the update will be available free of charge starting November 20.
Free Ride: A New Exploration Mode
The Free Ride mode immerses players in an open-world recreation of early 20th-century Sicily. Players can tackle a variety of challenges, unlocked progressively through the main campaign. Seamless switching between the campaign and Free Ride is possible from the pause menu.
Beyond the missions, Free Ride is designed to be full of hidden secrets. Developers promise that following clues can lead to unique rewards and fully-scripted “rabbit holes” for players to discover.
New Challenges, Weapons, and Activities
The update introduces nine combat challenges at launch, including five direct confrontations and four assassination missions, each offering its own set of rewards. New gameplay styles are also on the way, featuring both car and horse racing.
On the weapons front, Free Ride adds four new knives, three new rifles, as well as a selection of charms and cosmetic items. Players who enjoy customization will have access to 16 new outfits and three additional hats.
First-Person Driving, New Vehicles, and Integrated Photo Mode
A key addition is the introduction of first-person driving, a series first. Two new vehicles are also being added to the player’s garage, alongside a fully integrated photo mode.
For players seeking a greater challenge, a Classic difficulty level has been implemented, inspired by the earlier titles in the Mafia series. This mode features more resilient enemies, a more arduous recovery process after combat, and a realistic reloading mechanic where unspent bullets are lost when reloading.
The update demonstrates a commitment to expanding the game world and providing players with more ways to engage with the Mafia: The Old Country experience. The addition of features like first-person driving and a classic difficulty mode caters to both new and veteran fans of the franchise.
