LA Metro Offering Free Rides Today for Election Day
Los Angeles Metro will provide complimentary rides on all buses, trains, bike share, and micro ride-share services today, November 4th, to help facilitate voter access to polling places and ballot drop boxes.
The free ride period begins at 4 a.m. today and continues through 3 a.m. Wednesday. Riders can utilize Metro’s various transportation options to reach polling locations or deposit ballots at designated vote centers and drop boxes throughout Los Angeles County. “Metro encourages all eligible county residents to exercise their constitutional right to vote,” Metro stated, adding that the initiative aims to make voting “easier, more affordable and stress-free.”
Metro Bike Share will offer free 30-minute rides using the promo code “110425” at checkout, while Metro Micro, the agency’s ride-share program, requires the code “Vote25” for complimentary trips booked through the app, online, or by calling 323-GO-METRO (323-466-3876) and selecting option 5. Ballot drop boxes will be available at ten Metro stations, including Union Station, Hollywood/Western, and Wilshire/Vermont – a full list of locations can be found on the Metro website. This increased access is particularly important as Californians vote on Proposition 50, a measure concerning temporary statewide redistricting.
Metro’s headquarters at Union Station will also serve as a voting center from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today. The Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk’s Office is partnering with Metro to ensure convenient ballot access for riders and those living near transit stations; learn more about voting in Los Angeles County at the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk website.
Metro officials stated they will continue to support voter access in future elections.
