Mammotty continues to build a diverse and internationally appealing filmography, and his latest project, “Kanthara,” is proving to be a major success. Directed by debutant Jithin K. Jose, the film hit theaters December 5 and has since garnered significant attention after its streaming release. Following its arrival on OTT platforms, international audiences have particularly praised Mammotty’s performance.

Produced under the Mammotty Company banner, “Kanthara” represents a unique venture for the acclaimed actor and has become a notable achievement for the production house. Final box office figures, broken down by market, have now been released.

Box Office Breakdown Across Markets

According to data published by trackers Forum Reels, “Kanthara” earned 37.35 crore in Kerala and 7.20 crore in other Indian states, bringing its total domestic gross to 44.55 crore. The film also performed strongly internationally, earning $2.9 million in North America, $3.6 million in the UK/Ireland, and $3.42 million in the GCC region. Additional revenue came from Australia ($1.05 million) and New Zealand ($16,000). Including other overseas markets, the film generated a total of 38.64 crore internationally.

This brings the film’s global box office total to 83.19 crore, a significant success considering its budget. The film’s performance underscores the growing demand for Indian cinema on a global scale.

“Kanthara” marks the directorial debut of Jithin K. Jose, who previously wrote the story for “Kuruvi.” The screenplay is a collaboration between Jithin K. Jose and Jishnu Sreekumar. The film was distributed in Kerala by Wayfarer Films and is the seventh production from Mammotty Company. Beyond Mammotty’s performance, the film’s soundtrack, composed by Mujib Majeed, has also been widely praised. Faisal Ali served as the cinematographer.

The film features Mammotty as a serial killer, with Vinayakan portraying a special branch police officer. The dynamic between the two actors and their compelling performances were a major draw for audiences, who have embraced the film wholeheartedly.
