Bronx Man Dies After Apparent Beating; Person of Interest Questioned

A 48-year-old man died yesterday after suffering blunt force trauma inside a Bronx apartment, and detectives are questioning a person of interest in connection with the death.

Police responded to a 911 call at approximately 8:52 p.m. on November 8 at 1851 Phelan Place in the 46th Precinct. Officers found the victim unconscious with injuries indicating he had been attacked with a metal object. Emergency Medical Services transported the man to Saint Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities are withholding the victim’s identity until his family has been notified. The investigation is ongoing, and charges are pending against the individual currently being questioned. This incident comes as the city continues to grapple with concerns over violent crime, though statistics show a significant decrease in homicides in the 46th Precinct compared to last year; through November 2, there have been six homicides this year, down 76% from the 25 reported during the same period in 2024, according to NYPD statistics.

The death underscores the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in maintaining public safety. Detectives continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses as they work to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident; for more information on crime prevention, visit the Office of Justice Programs website.

Police say the investigation remains active, and further details will be released as they become available.
