A dispute over the estate of beloved Portuguese singer Marco Paulo, who died in 2021, continues to embroil family and associates. Newly revealed son, Eduardo Ferreira-a firefighter known as “Dudu”-is challenging the proposed division of assets, which allocates 90% to longtime friend Tony and the singer’s godson, Marquinho. Ferreira publicly voiced his frustrations this week, claiming the offered inheritance share is inadequate and prompting accusations of obstruction as negotiations remain at a standstill.
A dispute over the estate of late Portuguese singer Marco Paulo continues to unfold, with a surprising heir speaking out about stalled negotiations.
Eduardo Ferreira, a firefighter who was revealed to be Marco Paulo’s son, recently discussed the ongoing division of the singer’s assets during an appearance on the SIC program “Júlia,” hosted by Júlia Pinheiro. The conversation took place as it would have been Marco Paulo’s 81st birthday, January 21st.
Ferreira revealed that the situation is currently at a standstill, and he has yet to receive his share of the inheritance.
“Of course, I’ve been accused of being the one holding things up, and logically, maybe I am. It’s me, really. There are things I don’t agree with,” he explained, adding that he doesn’t accept “the values that were presented to me.”
Tony, a close friend of Marco Paulo, and Marquinho, the singer’s godson, are set to inherit 90% of the estate, with the remaining 10% allocated to Ferreira. The division of monetary value and physical assets has proven to be particularly complex.
According to reports, legal representatives for Tony and Marquinho made a proposal to Ferreira, offering a sum intended to represent his 10% share, but the firefighter deemed the amount unfair and rejected it.
“I think Dudu is right, if it was Marco Paulo’s wish, it should be respected,” commented Zulmira Garrido on a recent episode of the program “Casa Feliz.” “They’re pulling a lot of diversionary maneuvers, it’s perfectly clear that’s exactly what they’re doing to avoid giving anything to Dudu.”
“I think Dudu has already spent more than he’s going to receive, and he’ll spend more. Dudu is tired of leaving money with lawyers,” Garrido continued, stating she frequently speaks with Eduardo Ferreira.
“At this point, a lot of things have already disappeared, there’s been time for that. It’s very difficult to find out the truth now,” she pointed out, adding that Dudu “rightfully” demands his portion of the inheritance.
Rumors suggest that Tony and Marquinho were unhappy with Ferreira’s inclusion in the inheritance proceedings, a fact Marco Paulo had kept hidden, potentially complicating negotiations.
Dudu Appeals to Fellow Heirs
In a January 2025 interview with TVI’s “Dois às 10,” Ferreira made a direct appeal to the other heirs of Marco Paulo.
The firefighter explained that he had only one prior meeting with the other heirs, which coincided with his entry into TVI’s “Big Brother Verão,” and described the meeting as “peaceful and cordial.”
When asked if there was “bad faith” from the other side regarding resolving the case, Ferreira declined to answer.
Regarding his preferences, Ferreira stated that the property is already registered and “there’s nothing to be done” about it. However, he requested an audit to determine the actual amount of money available at the time of Marco Paulo’s death.
“I don’t want anyone to be harmed. Tony and Marquinho are just like me, they are heirs like me, we are inheriting something that Marco gave to all three of us. I don’t want to be harmed, nor do they, I just want what’s fair.”
Ferreira did not disclose whether a formal proposal had been made at the time, but he used the opportunity to appeal to the other heirs: “I would like us to sit down at the table to reach an agreement and end this.“
