Mark Chesnutt Hospitalized, Misses Baton Rouge Concert
Country music star Mark Chesnutt was hospitalized yesterday and unable to perform as the opening act for Alabama’s “Roll On II Tour” at the Raising Cane’s River Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Officials at the River Center announced Chesnutt was admitted to a local hospital for medical reasons, and his band performed in his place to a positive reception from attendees. This incident raises concerns among fans given Chesnutt’s recent health battles and ongoing tour.
The singer has faced several health challenges in recent years, including back surgery in 2022 and a critical care hospitalization in 2023. In June 2024, Chesnutt underwent emergency quadruple bypass surgery, describing it as a “major major one” where doctors “scraped scar tissue off his nerves” and implanted “two titanium rods” in his back, according to an interview with Music Row. He publicly announced his sobriety on November 1, 2023, five months before the surgery.
Chesnutt, a Beaumont, Texas native with 14 No. 1 hits and over 12 million albums sold, recently launched his “2025 Redemption Tour” celebrating his health and recovery; you can find more information about country music tours here. No further details regarding his current condition have been released, and officials stated they will provide updates as they become available.
