Medellín, Colombia’s second-largest city and a rising economic hub, is set to undergo critically important development with a new wave of construction projects planned by Tierra Grata & Co. The firm’s planned investment builds on recent economic gains in the Aburrá Valley, where the city’s population of 2.5 million has spurred demand for new housing and infrastructure. This initiative signals continued growth for Medellín, which has successfully transformed itself in recent decades from a city grappling with violence to a model for urban innovation.
Medellín, Colombia is poised to benefit from a significant investment plan slated to begin in 2026, driven by a series of ambitious urban and architectural projects. The investment underscores the growing economic importance of the Aburrá Valley region.
Construction firm Tierra Grata & Co announced it will launch one of its most important projects to date next year, describing the initiative as “a new urban and architectural milestone for Medellín and the Valle de Aburrá.” The scale and projected economic, social, and environmental impact of the development are expected to be substantial.
The Valle de Aburrá, located in the central-south region of Antioquia department within the Central Andes mountain range, is where Medellín is situated.
Tierra Grata & Co generated approximately 1,000 direct and indirect jobs in 2025, and projects to close the year with 218 billion pesos invested in pre-investment activities. This represents one of the largest investment commitments in the region currently.
“This announcement marks the beginning of a new stage. Those of us who build housing define how the city looks and how people live in it,” said Mauricio Mesa Londoño, general manager of Tierra Grata & Co, in a press statement. “Our commitment is to promote projects that improve quality of life, strengthen the community and contribute to sustainable and responsible urban development.”
Currently active in Envigado, El Poblado, Las Palmas, Bello and Rionegro, Tierra Grata & Co is expanding its portfolio to include projects benefiting residents of Medellín.
Medellín is consistently ranked among the top five cities in Colombia by various specialized platforms and portals. In recent years, the city—often called the ‘City of Eternal Spring’—has even been unofficially referred to as the country’s second capital, reflecting its growing prominence and economic influence.
