North Florida Men’s Tennis Concludes Fall Season with Strong Performance at Stetson Invitational

DeLAND, Fla. — The North Florida (UNF) men’s tennis team finished its fall season with a successful showing at the Stetson Invitational, held November 7-9 at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center, posting an overall record of 18-11 in singles and doubles play.

The Ospreys secured five doubles victories over the first two days of the invitational and excelled in singles competition, going 13-4, including a head-to-head matchup between two UNF players. Breno Marques, Joao Portugal, Jean Deloziere, and Benjamin Scott all remained undefeated in their singles matches throughout the tournament, though the final day of singles play was canceled due to inclement weather. UNF faced Kennesaw State and Boston College, dominating the Eagles with a 3-0 sweep in doubles and a 6-1 record in singles.

Key victories included Andreas Scott defeating Leon Peranovic of Kennesaw State 6-1, 6-2, and Joao Portugal’s straight-set win against Liam O’Leary of Boston College, 6-1, 6-0. Strong doubles pairings also contributed to the team’s success; Breno Marques and Andreas Scott defeated Matthew Carioscia and Matvey Greschner of Boston College 6-2. This fall performance builds momentum as the team prepares for the competitive spring season, where strong individual performances can translate to team success in the ASUN Conference.

The Ospreys will resume competition after the winter break, opening their spring season on Sunday, January 11, against South Carolina in Columbia, S.C. Officials stated that the team is focused on continuing this positive trajectory as they head into the spring season.
