FORT LAUDERDALE – Inter Miami has reached the Major League Soccer (MLS) championship final for the first time in franchise history, securing a dominant 5-1 victory over New York City in the playoff semifinals. Lionel Messi played a pivotal role in the win, delivering a crucial assist that swung the momentum in Miami’s favor.

While the Argentine superstar didn’t find the back of the net himself, his assist on Miami’s third goal proved to be the turning point, stifling a potential comeback from New York City.

“Leo has taught us that we can expect extraordinary things. He is exceptional, a player we will never see again. Perhaps we were surprised he didn’t score, but the third goal calmed us down. He provided an assist that only he could see. He practically decided the match. Together, as a team, we’ve reached the end of the season. Everyone pulled their weight, regardless of who played,” said Miami head coach Javier Mascherano, according to AFP.

A Clash of Legends Awaits

The championship final will feature a compelling matchup of European football icons. Inter Miami, led by Lionel Messi, will face off against the Vancouver Whitecaps, featuring German forward Thomas Müller. Vancouver advanced to the final after defeating San Diego 3-1 in the other semifinal.

“It’s not Messi versus Müller. Maybe a little more focus will be on him than on me. It’s nice that more people will watch this kind of match. It increases the value of the players and the club. This final is a perfect situation for everyone,” Müller told the league’s official website.

The MLS championship final is scheduled for Saturday, December 6th, at 8:30 PM.
