President Claudia Sheinbaum inaugurated a new suburban rail line connecting Mexico City’s Buenavista station to the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) on Sunday, April 26, 2026.

The inaugural train departed Buenavista at 10:27 a.m., carrying the president, Mexico City Mayor Clara Brugada, State of Mexico Governor Delfina Gómez, Hidalgo Governor Julio Menchaca, cabinet members, and her husband, Jesús María Tarriba.

Officials said the new “Felipe Ángeles” train will operate between Buenavista and AIFA in approximately 45 minutes, with service running every 30 minutes. During its launch phase, a promotional fare of 45 pesos applies for the full journey, while shorter trips will cost 11.50 pesos.

The rail link, which had been delayed from its original Semana Santa schedule, is part of an expanded suburban rail system in the Mexico Valley. Authorities noted that the project addresses long-standing transit gaps to AIFA, which opened in March 2022 and had previously relied mainly on ground transportation.

Sheinbaum confirmed that the federal government will assume full operation of the suburban rail service under an agreement with Spanish rail manufacturer and operator Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles (CAF), transitioning from a private to a public management model.

“The Suburban Train… will now be operated as a train in government hands,” Sheinbaum stated, emphasizing that the change was made “by mutual agreement with CAF.”

Service hours are set to run from 5:00 a.m. To midnight on weekdays, 6:00 a.m. On Saturdays, and 7:00 a.m. On Sundays and holidays, with the final departure at 11:30 p.m. Adjustments to align with flight schedules are reportedly underway in coordination with airlines.

Officials project daily ridership of approximately 82,000 passengers once the line is fully operational.
