Police in the southern Indian state of Kerala have taken a man into custody in connection with the brutal double murder of a couple in the quiet hill town of Nedumkandam, officials confirmed Wednesday.
The suspect, identified as Saji, was arrested Tuesday evening in a field near his home, according to local law enforcement. The bodies of the victims—38-year-old Merin Joseph and her husband, 42-year-old Santhosh Kumar—were discovered Monday in their home, sending shockwaves through the minor community.
Investigators say the couple, who worked as teachers at a nearby school, were found with severe injuries. Authorities have not released details about the suspected murder weapon or a possible motive, but an autopsy is underway to determine the exact cause of death.
