Manga World: New Releases and a Long-Running Series Concludes
The manga world is bustling with new releases and saying goodbye to a beloved series. Minami no Teio, known as “The Emperor of Minami,” concluded its approximately 34-year run in the February 27th issue of Weekly Manga Goraku, published February 13th by Nihon Bungeisha.
The final chapter of the series, created by Tenji Sato based on the original work by Taisho Tennoji, was marked with a four-issue run of front-page color spreads in Weekly Manga Goraku. The issue as well included farewell messages from both Sato and Tennoji. The complete 188-volume collection will be available in early April.
This marks the conclude of an era for fans of the gritty crime drama, which has captivated readers for decades. The conclusion follows a recent announcement regarding upcoming manga magazine releases.
Several manga magazines hit shelves on February 14th, including the March issue of Monthly Korokoro Comic (Shogakukan), the March issue of Monthly Comic Gene (Kadokawa), the March issue of Weekly Shonen Champion (Akita Shoten), the March issue of Hana to Yume (Bunkasha), and the March issue of Dear Plus (Shinshokan). Looking ahead to February 17th, it’s recognized as “Angel’s Whisper Memorial Day” in Japan, commemorating the record of the country’s lowest temperature – minus 41.2 degrees Celsius – recorded in 1978. The day celebrates “diamond dust,” ice crystals formed in the air.
