Tom Holland’s ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Will Not Debut in IMAX Theaters
Marvel’s highly anticipated Spider-Man: Brand New Day will not receive an IMAX release when it hits theaters next summer, despite expectations from fans.
The omission of the film from the 2026 IMAX slate, revealed yesterday by Culture Crave, is due to Christopher Nolan’s upcoming epic, The Odyssey, receiving exclusive access to all IMAX screens for a month beginning July 17, 2026. The Odyssey is notable as the first feature film shot entirely on IMAX’s 70mm film cameras. This prioritization means Spider-Man: Brand New Day, slated for release on July 31, 2026, will not have the opportunity to utilize the premium large format.
Interestingly, Tom Holland, who reprises his role as Spider-Man in Brand New Day alongside Zendaya and Jon Bernthal, is also a co-lead in The Odyssey, playing Telemachus, the son of Matt Damon’s Odysseus. Holland recently described the opportunity to work on the Nolan film as “the phone call of a lifetime,” comparing it to receiving the initial offer to play Spider-Man a decade ago, according to a report from Good Morning America. While the lack of an IMAX release may disappoint some fans, the film is still expected to be a major box office success, building on the nearly $2 billion worldwide gross of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Despite this setback, Marvel and Sony are confident in the film’s appeal, particularly given the positive reception to practical web-slinging stunts and Holland’s new Spider-Man suit. Studio representatives have indicated they will continue to focus on delivering a compelling cinematic experience through other avenues.
