Telangana Chief Minister Announces NTR Statue in Hyderabad

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy announced today that a statue of the late actor and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR) will be erected at Maitrivanam in Ameerpet, Hyderabad.

Speaking during a campaign rally for the Jubilee Hills by-election, Reddy stated that NTR is a widely admired leader and defended the decision to install the statue in Hyderabad. “NTR is a great leader we all admire. If anyone dares to oppose the installation of his statue, we will see their end and bury them in the Musi River,” Reddy declared, according to reports. He also committed to personally attending the inauguration and has tasked Congress Jubilee Hills MLA candidate Naveen Yadav with overseeing the project.

The announcement comes as the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) is not contesting the Jubilee Hills by-election, with party leader Chandrababu Naidu having directed supporters to either back the BJP candidate or remain neutral. However, Reddy has a history with the TDP, having previously been a member of the party, and this move is widely seen as an attempt to appeal to TDP sympathizers. NTR remains a highly respected figure in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, and his legacy continues to influence regional politics; understanding NTR’s political career is key to understanding this move.

The installation of the statue could potentially influence the outcome of the Jubilee Hills by-election, which is scheduled for November 16th. Officials have indicated that further details regarding the statue’s design and construction timeline will be released in the coming days.
