The Florida Panthers edged the Carolina Hurricanes 4-3 in a thrilling shootout victory on Friday night.

Forward Rudolf Balinskis skated for 11 minutes and 37 seconds, registering one shot on goal, one hit, one blocked shot, and one interception. He finished the night with a plus/minus rating of -1.

Jordan Staal put the Hurricanes ahead 1-0 in the 12th minute of play. Carolina extended their lead in the third period with two quick goals from Sebastian Aho, assisted by Andrei Svechnikov and Seth Jarvis. Brad Marchand responded for the Panthers, cutting the deficit to one. With just over two and a half minutes remaining and their net empty, Florida battled back with goals from Sam Bennett and Sam Reinhart to tie the game at 3-3 and force overtime.

In the shootout, Reinhart and Evan Rodrigues scored for the Panthers, while Jason Blake found the back of the net for the Hurricanes.

All four Panthers goalscorers in regulation time finished with two points, as did Rodrigues, who added two assists.

The Panthers now sit at 40 points through 34 games, good for seventh place in the Eastern Conference. The Hurricanes lead the conference with 47 points in the same number of games. This result keeps the pressure on at the top of the Eastern Conference standings as teams jockey for playoff positioning.
