Oscar Piastri surged to pole position at the Qatar Grand Prix, edging out championship contenders Lando Norris and Max Verstappen in a thrilling qualifying session.

The McLaren driver’s blistering lap sets the stage for a crucial 57-lap race, where a victory would keep his Drivers’ Championship hopes alive and force a final showdown in Abu Dhabi. Piastri now has a prime opportunity to challenge for the title.

Norris, currently holding a 22-point lead in the championship standings, initially claimed provisional pole with a fast lap. However, he encountered understeer during his second attempt and wisely aborted the run, leaving the door open for his teammate.
