Mesa Pizza in Minneapolis’ Uptown Neighborhood Closes After 14 Years
Mesa Pizza, a Minneapolis restaurant celebrated for its unique macaroni and cheese pizza, has permanently closed its Uptown location after 14 years in business.
The restaurant served its final customers on Halloween night, following an announcement made Friday afternoon. In a post on Instagram, Mesa Pizza stated, “It is with heavy hearts that we unfortunately have to announce we are closing… It has been an honor to serve the uptown community. From the drunk person who NEEDS a slice of mac to the pregnant mother [who] NEEDS a slice of mac. We appreciate every one of you to no end.” The closure leaves a void in the late-night dining scene for many Minneapolis residents.
Mesa Pizza also operates locations in Dinkytown, Minneapolis, and Iowa City, Iowa. Representatives for Mesa Pizza have not yet commented on whether the closures extend to those locations. Staff at the Dinkytown restaurant reported being unsure of its future, though the location remained open today, November 1, 2025. The restaurant gained a loyal following for its creative pizza combinations and late-night hours, becoming a staple for students and residents alike.
The sudden closure raises questions about the future of the remaining Mesa Pizza locations and the local restaurant industry, which has faced increasing challenges in recent years. Officials have not yet released a statement regarding the reasons behind the Uptown location’s closure.
