Portugal: Bar Shooting & Arrests After Police Fire Warning Shot

A shooting near a bar in [Location redacted – pending confirmation] prompted a police response and the arrest of two men over the weekend, authorities reported Sunday. The incident unfolded after an initial confrontation, with suspects later returning to the scene and allegedly discharging a firearm [[1]]. Police responded while continuing an initial investigation and discharged a single warning shot into the air following the suspects’ reappearance and subsequent non-compliance with directives, according to a police statement.

After an initial confrontation, two men, ages 26 and 28, returned to the area and one allegedly fired a weapon toward the entrance of a bar, authorities said.

Police were dispatched to the scene and were still investigating when the suspects reappeared in a vehicle. “Considering the immediate intervention with the suspects, coupled with the strong suspicion of involvement of firearms and the fact that they refused to comply with the orders given by the PSP, it was necessary to resort to the use of a firearm with a shot fired into the air,” a police statement explained.

A firearm and a cartridge casing were recovered at the scene. The investigation is now being led by the Judiciary Police.

Both suspects have been taken into custody and are scheduled to be presented before a judicial authority on Monday.
