Rabat, Morocco – Kerrone Courtney Stanislaus has become the first citizen of Saint Lucia – and the entire Caribbean – to earn a medical degree from a Moroccan university, marking a significant milestone for the island nation’s healthcare ambitions. Stanislaus completed his studies at the Faculté de médecine et de pharmacie de Rabat, overcoming both linguistic and cultural challenges during his time abroad.

Stanislaus arrived in Rabat in 2018 to begin his medical training. He described the experience as initially “really overwhelming,” but one that ultimately strengthened his resilience, and faith. “Being the first Saint Lucian to graduate from medical school in Morocco is both an honor and a profound responsibility,” he said, according to a report from St Lucia Times.

His capstone thesis, “The Impact of Exercise Therapy on Cancer Patients: The Clinician’s Perspective,” was awarded a prize upon completion. Stanislaus believes exercise can serve as a safe, affordable, and accessible complementary method in the ongoing global fight against cancer. “I sincerely believe that exercise can serve as a safe, less costly, and feasible complementary method in our ongoing global fight against cancer,” he stated.

The newly minted doctor is encouraging other students from Saint Lucia and the wider Caribbean region to consider Morocco as a destination for higher education. He emphasized that success is attainable for those who are “motivated enough and stick with it.” This achievement could open doors for increased educational exchange between the Caribbean and North Africa. The Faculté de médecine et de pharmacie de Rabat was established in 1962 by King Hassan II.
