Housemarque has confirmed that its upcoming PlayStation 5 exclusive Saros will launch with enhanced support for the PS5 Pro, including an updated version of the console’s PSSR upscaler and a higher base render resolution.
The studio revealed the details ahead of the game’s April 30 release, emphasizing that Saros was designed to showcase the capabilities of current PlayStation hardware. According to creative director Gregory Louden, the team upgraded PSSR support to the latest version released in March, which delivers image quality so sharp it is nearly indistinguishable from native 4K when exploring the game’s world of Carcosa.
Technical director Seppo Halonen explained that on PS5 Pro, the base render resolution has been increased — the resolution before upscaling takes place. This change results in a clearer, higher-resolution image during gameplay while maintaining a stable 60 frames per second. Even though dynamic resolution is used to ensure consistent performance during intense combat, Halonen noted that PS5 Pro consistently delivers a sharper image in scene-to-scene comparisons.
Beyond resolution improvements, Housemarque has made additional refinements to reflections and overall visual quality. These adjustments ensure that the enhanced pixel count is matched by upgraded rendered content, so the visual improvement stems not just from more pixels but from better detail across the frame.
Saros will also leverage the DualSense wireless controller’s adaptive triggers in a distinctive way: pulling the L2 trigger halfway activates the main weapon’s alternate fire, while pressing it fully triggers an Eclipse-driven power weapon. The studio highlighted its perform on haptic feedback, stating that loading times are nearly instant to keep players immersed in the action.
As a third-person action game and spiritual successor to Returnal, Saros features a new setting and cast of characters. It will run at up to 60fps during gameplay, with cutscenes fixed at 30fps across both PS5 and PS5 Pro versions.
The game’s launch on April 30 positions it as one of the year’s major PlayStation 5 exclusives, arriving alongside other high-profile titles such as Marvel’s Wolverine. Housemarque aims to build on the gameplay foundation established by Returnal while pushing the technical boundaries of the current console generation.
