Savatage Announces ‘Prelude To Madness’ European Tour for Summer 2026
Progressive metal pioneers Savatage today announced a nine-date headline tour across Europe in the summer of 2026, building on their successful return to the stage following a nearly two-decade hiatus.
The “Prelude To Madness” tour kicks off July 19 in Istanbul, Turkey, and includes performances in cities the band has never played before, including Bucharest, Romania and Warsaw, Poland. A particularly unique event will take place in Pompeii, Italy on July 27, where Savatage will perform alongside an orchestra at the historic Amphitheater of Pompeii. Support on select dates will come from Armored Saint, Vision Divine, and Nevermore. This tour signifies a continued resurgence for the band, who have captivated fans for over four decades.
Tickets go on sale to the general public this Friday, November 7, following a pre-sale for fans who sign up at Savatage.com. Vocalist Zak Stevens expressed his excitement, stating, “After last year’s amazing tours of South America and Europe, I’m VERY excited for the SAVATAGE 2026 headline shows in Europe…We are excited to see our old friends ARMORED SAINT, VISION DIVINE and NEVERMORE as special guests.” The band’s current lineup includes Stevens, guitarists Al Pitrelli and Chris Caffery, bassist Johnny Lee Middleton, and drummer Jeff Plate. The band’s story has been marked by both musical innovation and personal tragedy, including the loss of founding guitarist Criss Oliva in 1993.
While the band is thrilled to be returning to the stage, guitarist Chris Caffery recently discussed the absence of founding member Jon Oliva, who is currently facing health challenges including multiple sclerosis and a spinal fracture. Caffery emphasized Oliva’s continued inspiration to the band and his involvement in creative aspects, despite being unable to tour. Officials stated that further tour dates, including potential U.S. shows, are under consideration as part of a long-term plan.
