Born on August 16, 1943, in the Shubra district of Cairo, Zayan’s early ambitions were rooted in service and science. He graduated from the Military Academy and pursued specialized studies at the Aviation Institute, where he focused on aircraft engineering. However, the pull of the arts eventually outweighed his military career. In a bold pivot, Zayan left the field of engineering to enroll in the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts. Sayed Zayan’s grandson, Mahmoud, recalled that the actor consciously refused to use “wasta” (nepotism or influence) to secure his place in the industry, choosing instead to earn his success through talent and perseverance.
This determination paid off, as Zayan successfully navigated his journey from the Military Academy to the peak of comedy. Known for being “light-hearted” and witty, as noted in family memories of his personality, Zayan carved out a legacy as an artist who could connect with people from all walks of life.
