RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — Saudi Arabia’s Grand Mufti Sheikh Dr. Saleh Al-Fawzan has underscored the importance of supporting charitable endowments, known as waqf, and praised the function of the Ihsan Endowment Fund in fostering a spirit of community solidarity. The endorsement from a leading religious figure comes as the Kingdom continues to emphasize the role of philanthropy in national development.

Al-Fawzan highlighted the significance of waqf in Islamic tradition, describing it as “one of the greatest acts of devotion and one of the most significant doors of goodness” due to its lasting benefits and continued rewards. He cited a saying attributed to the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him: “When a person dies, his deeds come to an end except for three: a continuous charity, or knowledge that is benefited from, or a righteous child who prays for him.”

The Grand Mufti likewise commended the Saudi leadership for its commitment to charitable work and its impact on the country. He noted that this support reflects a long-standing tradition of service to Islam and the promotion of generosity. This emphasis on charitable giving underscores the Kingdom’s broader efforts to strengthen social welfare programs and address the needs of vulnerable populations.

Al-Fawzan called on business leaders and philanthropists to contribute to the Ihsan Endowment Fund and its projects, emphasizing the fund’s role in supporting those in need through the Ihsan platform and fostering cooperation within Saudi society. He asked God to reward supporters generously and to bless their wealth and endeavors.

The endorsement from Al-Fawzan is expected to encourage increased contributions to the Ihsan Endowment Fund and further promote the concept of waqf as a vital component of Islamic philanthropy. The move highlights the ongoing collaboration between religious authorities and charitable organizations in Saudi Arabia to address social challenges and promote community well-being.
