The opening leg of the women’s biathlon relay proved challenging for Johanna Skottheim.
Two penalty loops in the prone shooting stage significantly hampered Sweden’s medal hopes.
“I don’t really have an explanation. I try to focus on each shot and do the job, but I get stressed, and the shots are a little low,” Skottheim said.
She continued:
“I would have liked to have a good competition today, that’s a bit disappointing.”
Björn Ferry was critical during SVT’s broadcast.
“It’s a disaster start for Sweden and Johanna Skottheim,” he said on SVT.
Skottheim tagged Anna Magnusson, who then handed off to Ella Halvarsson, ensuring clean shooting and setting the stage for Hanna Öberg. The star athlete shot quickly and cleanly in the prone position, raced at a blistering pace, and ultimately finished fourth, narrowly missing the podium.
France won with a time of 1:11:17.9 – 45.5 seconds ahead of Sweden. Italy took second, and the Czech Republic finished third.
