Bratislava – Slovakia’s national postal service,Slovenska Posta,is implementing a revised pricing structure effective January 1,2026,balancing the need to maintain universal service amid declining letter volumes and rising costs. The adjustments introduce modest increases for conventional letter postage while together lowering rates for packages, particularly for those processed online. The changes, announced by CEO Vladislav Kupka, aim to modernize services and offset financial pressures facing the postal service as consumer behavior evolves. Slovenska Posta handles approximately 55 million postal items annually, according to recent company reports.

BRATISLAVA – Slovakia’s national postal service, Slovenska Posta, is adjusting its pricing structure beginning January 1, 2026, responding to shifting customer behavior and rising operational costs. The changes will see modest price increases for letters, while package rates will decrease, and customers who utilize online postage options will benefit from greater savings.

The postal service explained that the adjustments are necessary to maintain a reliable universal service throughout Slovakia, despite a long-term decline in letter volumes and increasing security and operational demands. “The tariff adjustment is essential to ensure we can continue to provide a reliable universal service in the required quality, in every region of Slovakia,” said Slovenska Posta CEO Vladislav Kupka. “Revenue from letters has been declining for a long time, but demands on operations and security are growing. Therefore, we are setting changes to be as little burden as possible for customers – significantly favoring online submission and even reducing prices for packages, which are in the greatest demand.”

Letter Postage

The rate for a standard letter weighing up to 50 grams (Class 2 Letter) will increase to €1.40 from January 1, a rise of €0.20. Corresponding adjustments will also be made to registered, official, and insured mail submitted at the post office counter. Postal money orders and SIPO (direct debit) services will also see price updates, reflecting declining usage and increased processing costs. However, these changes are partially offset by increased price advantages for online postage through the Slovenska Posta Mobile App or e-Filing form. For example, a registered first-class letter will cost €3.80 at the counter from January, but only €2.90 when submitted online. An insured first-class letter up to €500 will be €4.30 at the counter, reduced to €3.40 online. Customers can save up to €0.90 per submission, as price adjustments in electronic categories are lower.

These changes come as postal services globally grapple with the decline of traditional mail and the need to adapt to digital alternatives.

Package Postage – Unchanged at the Counter, Cheaper Online

Prices for packages submitted at the post office counter will remain the same, while packages submitted online will be cheaper than before, with prices decreasing by 10 cents. New rates will start as low as €3.

Specific adjustments include:

  • Package to post office/collection point up to 5 kg: from €3.10 to €3.00
  • Package up to 10 kg: from €3.50 to €3.40

Fees for Convenient Services Eliminated

Redelivery or forwarding of a shipment to another address are two popular services that save customers time and, starting next year, money. If customers find a yellow notice in their mailbox after an unsuccessful delivery attempt, they no longer need to go to the post office immediately. Customers can request that the shipment be redelivered – either to the same address or another (work, another post office). The same option is available for packages in transit when the planned delivery time and location are not convenient. While redelivery previously cost €2 and forwarding a shipment to another address cost €3.50, these services will be completely free for customers from January 2026. Customers can request them by phone, on the website in the Shipment Tracking section, or via the mobile app. This is one of the measures to compensate for price adjustments and, at the same time, increase customer comfort.

International Shipments

As part of the price list change, maximum prices for universal service in international traffic are also being adjusted. Prices for packages to the Czech Republic and other European countries remain the same. The price of packages to other countries around the world will be adjusted upwards by up to €4.
