Blanárov počin Holanďania rešpektujú, no Bratislave pripomínajú slabý boj proti korupcii aj nedostatočné práva LGBTIQ+ ľudí.
„Holandsko rešpektuje postoje vyjadrené slovenskou vládou a oceňuje otvorený a konštruktívny dialóg medzi partnermi,“ odpísal na naše otázky hovorca holandskej diplomacie Jean Paul Horsch.

The Netherlands and Slovakia are locked in a diplomatic dispute, raising concerns about European unity. The conflict stems from a new Dutch coalition agreement that accuses Slovakia of actively undermining the European Union.
According to a statement from Slovakia’s Foreign Ministry, the government considers the accusation unacceptable and has lodged a protest with the Dutch ambassador. The Dutch coalition agreement specifically criticizes Slovakia, along with Hungary, stating, “We will firmly oppose countries that actively undermine Europe.”
The Dutch government, in its coalition agreement, proposes simplifying the process outlined in Article 7 of the Treaty on European Union – a mechanism that could lead to the suspension of a member state’s voting rights – and ending the requirement for unanimous agreement on foreign policy matters.
Dutch officials maintain their position, citing a 2025 European Commission report on the rule of law in Slovakia. “The report identifies growing concerns regarding institutional checks and balances, including reforms affecting the independence of the judiciary, the enforcement of the fight against corruption, and freedom of the media,” said Jean Paul Horsch, a spokesperson for Dutch diplomacy.
Holandsko zároveň zdôrazňuje dôležitosť zachovania jednoty medzi členskými štátmi EÚ napríklad v oblasti spoločnej zahraničnej a bezpečnostnej politiky,“ added Horsch. He noted that both Slovakia and Hungary have been problematic players within the EU, recently blocking the adoption of a 20th package of sanctions against Russia.
The Netherlands is determined to protect the principles of the rule of law within the European Union and promote European unity. Officials stated they are prepared to take action if member states undermine these principles, including potentially cutting off European funds and utilizing Article 7 of the EU treaty.
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico strongly criticized the Dutch stance, stating, “Punishing sovereign states for sovereign opinions is a road to hell.” He warned that the proposed policies threaten the entire EU and argued against the elimination of the veto power in key decision-making processes.
But, political analyst Radovan Geist of euractiv.sk suggests the Netherlands carries significant weight within the EU. “The Netherlands is a country that, unlike Slovakia, is at the center of several integration initiatives, such as in the area of defense and strengthening European sovereignty,” Geist explained. He added that the Dutch criticism is based on established EU rules and principles, not simply a reflection of differing political ideologies.
