Jakarta – A minibus driver in Central Jakarta sustained 40% burns after being set on fire by a colleague during a dispute over queue jumping, police confirmed on Sunday.
The incident occurred around 9:00 a.m. On Saturday, April 25, 2026, on Kiai Haji Mas Mansyur Street in the Kebon Melati subdistrict of Tanah Abang.
According to Tanah Abang police chief AKBP Dhimas Prasetyo, the victim, identified only as S, 52, had just secured his turn to pick up passengers when the suspect, P, 38, cut in line.
S confronted P about the action, but P later returned, doused S and his minibus with gasoline, and set them ablaze.
The victim suffered burns to his left ear, left arm, waist, and left thigh. He is currently undergoing blood transfusions due to low hemoglobin levels and is scheduled for burn removal surgery on Monday.
Police have questioned four witnesses in the case. The suspect remains at large, and authorities are continuing their search for P.
The attack highlights the dangers of escalating conflicts over public transport queues in densely populated urban areas.
