Gines, Spain, hosted the Spanish Junior Judo Championship – Southern Sector Phase this Saturday, drawing top young judokas from across southern Spain in a crucial qualifying event for the national championship.

The competition, held at the Pabellón Cubierto de Gines, saw athletes from Andalusia, the Canary Islands, Extremadura, and Castilla-La Mancha battling for the top two spots in each category, which guaranteed direct entry into the Spanish Junior Championship. The day was marked by a high level of technical skill and fiercely contested finals.

The event was organized by the Andalusian Judo Federation (FANJYDA) and the Royal Spanish Judo Federation, with support from the Gines City Council. Local judokas from Gines also participated, gaining valuable experience against some of the nation’s rising stars.

Gines Mayor Romualdo Garrido and City Council Sports Delegate Manuel Camino were in attendance, closely following the action and participating in the awards ceremony alongside Mariola Rus, Director General of Systems and Sports Values for the Regional Government of Andalusia.

Beyond the competition itself, the smooth organization and enthusiastic public response underscored Gines’s ability to successfully host events at the national level. The championship highlighted the growing strength of junior judo programs in the region and sets the stage for an exciting national final.
