Istanbul-based Göztepe S.K. will retain manager Stanimir Stoilov after the Bulgarian coach declined a significant offer from Russian Premier League side Spartak Moscow. The pursuit of Stoilov highlights his success in revitalizing Göztepe as his arrival in late 2023, guiding them to promotion and a current position in contention for European qualification. Spartak Moscow has since appointed Juan Carlos Carcedo as thier new head coach.
Highly sought-after manager Stanimir Stoilov has turned down a lucrative offer from Spartak Moscow, according to reports from Cyprus-based publication Shootandgoal. The Russian club quickly pivoted, securing the services of Juan Carlos Carcedo, the current head coach of Pafos, who has accepted the position and replaced Dejan Stankovic.
Sources indicate Spartak Moscow attempted to lure Stoilov with an annual salary of €2.5 million. He was reportedly the club’s top target, but the Bulgarian coach has chosen to remain with Göztepe, where he’s orchestrated a remarkable turnaround since arriving in November 2023. Stoilov guided Göztepe to promotion to the Turkish Super Lig and, after a strong first season resulting in an eighth-place finish, currently has the team contending for European qualification. They sit fourth in the league table, just three points behind third-placed Trabzonspor.
Stoilov’s contract with Göztepe extends through the summer of 2027.
