Steelheads Fall to Mavericks 5-2 in Wednesday Morning Match
The Idaho Steelheads were defeated by the Kansas City Mavericks 5-2 at Cable Dahmer Arena today, continuing a challenging start to the season for the Steelheads.
Kansas City dominated the first period, building a 4-0 lead with goals from Landon McCallum (2:19), Luke Loheit (7:05), and two from Bobo Carpenter (14:07, 19:32). Idaho struggled to contain the Mavericks’ offense early in the contest. The Steelheads’ goaltender, Nolan Maier, faced a barrage of shots, stopping 29 of 34.
Idaho attempted a comeback in the second and third periods. Jordan Steinmetz scored his first ECHL goal at 4:34 of the second period, capitalizing on his own rebound, and Kaleb Pearson netted his first goal of the season at 1:28 of the third during 4-on-4 play. However, McCallum’s second goal of the game at 7:13 extinguished any hopes of a rally. The loss drops the Steelheads to 4-5-0-0 on the season, while the Mavericks improve to 5-3-0-0.
