Belmont University Athletes Support Foster Children with ‘TAK PAK’ Drive

Belmont University’s athletic department yesterday, November 4th, continued its four-year tradition of supporting Middle Tennessee foster children by assembling essential care packages.

In partnership with the Tennessee Alliance for Kids, student-athletes, coaches, and staff participated in a “TAK PAK Party,” packing backpacks filled with toiletries, toys, books, and clothing for children entering the foster care system. These “TAK PAKs” provide comfort and a sense of belonging to children often removed from their homes with little to no personal belongings. The event is Belmont’s contribution to the NCAA’s Civic Engagement Day, an initiative designed to encourage student-athlete participation in community service.

The NCAA adopted Civic Engagement Day in 2020, prohibiting countable athletically related activities on the first Tuesday after November 1st each year to prioritize civic duties. “Once again, our student-athletes and the entire athletic department stepped up and provided items for children who are going through the most uncertain and hard time in their life,” said Dr. Ryan Neises, Belmont’s Director of Student-Athlete Formation. Belmont’s commitment highlights the growing emphasis on the role of college athletics in addressing social needs within their communities.

Belmont Athletics consistently emphasizes a holistic approach to student development, as detailed on their official athletics page, and plans to continue this impactful partnership in the years to come.
