Despite a recent surge in vampire-themed games, the director of the upcoming RPG, The Blood of Dawnwalker, has clarified that the title won’t be solely focused on the vampire fantasy. Konrad Tomaszkiewicz confirmed the game will explore a broader range of nocturnal creatures and storylines.
The protagonist, known as Kwen, is a half-human, half-vampire hybrid, but players will have significant freedom in how they approach gameplay, moving beyond reliance on traditional vampire abilities. The narrative will feature vampires, but it’s intended to be a story encompassing a wider variety of supernatural beings. This approach reflects a growing trend in RPGs to offer players more agency and nuanced character builds.
The development team has drawn inspiration from Dishonored, aiming to provide players with multiple pathways to complete objectives. This will be achieved through diverse abilities and intricately designed levels that encourage exploration and side quests. The emphasis on player choice is a key element in creating a dynamic and replayable experience.
For example, Kwen possesses abilities like “Compel Soul,” which functions similarly to the “Speak With Dead” spell in Baldur’s Gate 3, allowing players to uncover new story elements and find unexpected solutions. However, this ability is unavailable during nighttime hours.
